Most of us put on a few pounds when we go on holiday but if you would prefer to come back from your holiday a little lighter, you’ll be happy to hear that the Biggest Loser destination spas are expanding to the East Coast of America.
The Beaver Hollow Conference Center near Buffalo and Niagara Falls will be transformed into the third spa in this growing chain affiliated with the hit NBC TV show.
The Biggest Loser Resort Niagara is due in May, joining other American holiday spas in Ivins, Utah, Malibu and California. “The new location also will launch corporate getaways with a health/fitness component”, says Larry Bond, CEO of Fitness Ridge Worldwide, which runs the Biggest Loser lifestyle-changing resorts.
An indoor/outdoor aquatic centre will be built and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing will be added to the menu because of the region's notoriously frigid winters.
Those who follow the TV show closely will be interested to know that past The Biggest Loser participants who fell in love and who have lost a lot of weight -- Ramon Medeiros and Jessica Limpert-- are due to be trainers at the new facility. An NBC spokeswoman says she didn't know yet whether the new location will be used on the show.
The resorts (biggestloserresort.com) teach nutrition and exercise regimens used on The Biggest Loser. Rates will start at about $2,300 weekly, double, and $2,700 single, including all meals and programs, he says. Bond is looking to have 20 Biggest Loser locations "in the next three years."
He thinks there's a growing market for places that help people "change their lifestyles." Numerous reports say the nation's obesity epidemic will only get worse, he adds, and the existing Loser resorts "are close to full occupancy through June already."
